2006 Upton Music Festival CANCELLED
2007 will be the second year that the festival has been run. 2005 saw 16 bands appear over two days in two venues The Community Centre and The Workingmen's Club. Bands came from as far afield as Essex and Devon. I had this foolish notion that the festival would run itself, and soon realised the errors of my ways. What with the London Bombings the week before causing the travel disruption. 2006 Music Festival unfortunately had to be cancelled due to a requirement set down by the Dorset Police Licensing Authority who insisted that £17,000 had to be spent on outside SIA Registered staff were present both inside and outside all venues involved with the festival. Entertainment Live UK, along with Purple Purge of Wimborne have now started planning to train our own staff to cover local events.
Well, mainly because I was bored, and it seemed like a good idea at the time! My son is in a band, (he'll be playing the festival this year) and I thought that after arranging a couple of gigs, it was the next step.
I would love to pay them all a million pounds, but that's not going to happen! Before they apply to play, they are informed on the page that it is a charity event and that there will be no guarantees of even travelling expenses. They are reminded again when they have been added to the list of bands that have applied, and again in an informal acceptance letter which will lay down very clearly that they will not be paid as all the money will be donated to charity.
