Upton 2006 CANCELLED
After two weeks of trying to contact the Police Licensing Department, my contact there has just returned from holiday.

I have now received a reply to my letters and phone calls, and to cut a long story short, I have been told that I am required to have the SIA Registered Trained Staff both on the doors of all venues and supervising the interior. While every effort is being made to train a group of volunteers to cover such events in the future, their licenses will not come through until after the Festival. Therefore, it is with much regret and apologies that I am taking the decision to cancel Upton Music Festival 2006. To hire in outside staff will cost in excess of £17,000 which far exceeds the £12,000 the festival would make for charity, if every ticket were to be sold.

All bands will be notified over the next couple of days of this, and I hope to be able to still put on a couple of gigs over that weekend, this year.

Upton 2007 Will go ahead on July 6th, 7th and 8th
As by the second weekend in July 2007 we will have a group of SIA trained, registered and licenced Door and Security Staff, plans for the 2007 Upton Music Festival will start early. I will be discussing and involving a number of local groups in the planning of the proposed 2007 Festival with the idea of tying it in with a Town Fair, Scouting Event, a Beer Festival and other community based events, to make 2007 a year to remember.

11 April 2006: Just removed all the bands that have had to pull out and e-mailed some of the bands that applied, but could not be fitted in to the lineup. On Friday I will be placing those that reply and offering extra slots to the bands that have shown interest in playing more slots... I have just remembered. The contact page isn't working. I'll do it this evening.
25 March 2006: Just catching up... I have just selected the 12 bands that will be appearing in Upton Community Centre for the 3 money raising events. see here for the bands that will be appearing
11 March 2006: 3 gigs have been set up to raise money for the festival. one in April and the other in May. see here for further information
9 March 2006: News (at last) from the 3rd Venue. The third venue has been confirmed for two of the three days, as has The Greenridge public house freeing up another 36 slots. So All bands that are waiting to here, can now block the weekend out as they will all have the opportunity to play.
24 February 2006: A 5th Venue has been arranged for one day. Llewellyn Court is a retirement home, so there will be four 1 hour slots on the Saturday, available for acoustic, folk and Jazz musicians, who will be playing to the residents, their families and friends.
20 February 2006: Upton Music Festival Website - A new stand alone website is nearly ready to go live to the public. The new site will be going live on the 23rd or 24th February.
20 February 2006: A 4th venue has made contact and I am meeting them on Wednesday night (22nd February) and will keep you informed.
20 February 2006: The third venue The British Legion Club are having their meeting to finalise arrangements for the festival to be aloud access to their facilities on Tuesday (21st February) so I should know for definite on Wednesday morning.
